Welcome to My Blog!

Hey there! Welcome to my Blog. If you’re reading this, you’re either a fellow creative, someone curious about the world of design, or you’ve just stumbled upon my blog while procrastinating (no judgment here!).

I thought I’d kick things off with a story about how I fell head over heels for graphic design and branding. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t a straight path.

The Early Days

Growing up, I always enjoyed art, and I was constantly drawing comics, and doodling emblems on my book covers in school. I have always been a visual person. I even remember being much more excited about learning cursive than the other kids. Haha, I couldn’t wait to draw the curly letters.

In high school, I discovered Photoshop (the old, clunky version that crashed constantly). It was a revelation for me when I discovered the world of commercial art. I was immediately drawn to the impact of logos, ads and advertising. It was amazing to me how an entire message could be could simplified into a perfect visual, like and ad, logos, and posters.

In college I majored in graphic design, and immediately after graduation I pursued my dream of moving to New York City to work in advertising. At agencies I learned so much about concepting, and building a brand, and that it was not just about a cool idea but getting to the core of that client’s message.

Why Design Feels Like Magic

What is it about design and branding that I love? It’s the impact. Think about it: a great logo sticks in your mind, a well-designed website pulls you in, and a perfectly crafted poster can inspire you to act. Design isn’t just decoration; it’s communication.

I still get that rush every time I start a new project. There’s something magical about taking an idea and turning it into something tangible—something that connects with people.

Design Is Everywhere

The funny thing is, once you start designing, you see the world differently. Suddenly, every ad, sign, and logo are talking to you. You notice the fonts on cereal boxes, the colors in movie posters, and the alignment of text on billboards (seriously, bad kerning will haunt you).

It’s like joining a secret club where the world becomes your inspiration board.

What This Blog Is About

So why start a blog? Good question. For me, this is a place to share my journey as a designer—the highs, the challenges, the weird projects I stumble into. But it’s also a space for you. Whether you’re a fellow designer, someone curious about the creative process, or just someone who loves a good story, I hope you’ll find something here that sparks your curiosity.

What You Can Expect

So, what can you look forward to here? As I planned this blog, I decided to organize my posts into three main areas. These are designed to cater to a mix of audiences, from designers looking for inspiration to small business owners eager to learn more about branding. Here’s a little glimpse into what’s coming:

  1. Design Tips & Creative Insights: If you’re a fellow designer (or an aspiring one), this section is for you. I’ll share practical advice, lessons I’ve learned along the way, and techniques to help you hone your craft. Whether it’s overcoming creative blocks, developing a unique design style, or staying inspired, I’ll cover topics that matter most to our creative community.

  2. Branding Basics for Business Owners: For small business owners, this section will focus on how to build a brand that resonates with your audience. I’ll write about topics like creating a consistent visual identity, choosing the right colors and fonts, and the dos and don’ts of logo design. My goal is to make branding less intimidating and more approachable for anyone trying to level up their business.

  3. Behind the Scenes & Personal Projects: I’ll also be sharing updates about my own creative journey and projects. For example, I’m excited to let you in on my work with This Moment Books, where I’ve been designing journals and guides for people who love to document their thoughts and ideas. I’ll give you a sneak peek into upcoming releases and share the design process behind these projects. I hope this section inspires you to explore your own creative ventures too!

Let’s Create Together

Graphic design has given me so much—a career, a creative outlet, and a way to connect with people. This blog is my way of giving a little bit of that back.

Thanks for reading my very first post. If you’re new to design, welcome to the most exciting journey of your life. If you’re a seasoned pro, let’s swap stories. And if you’re just here for the ride, I hope you’ll stick around.

Catch you in the next post,
Zach
